Grading Policy
- Late assignments
- Homework assignments should be completed and turned in on time. For each day that an assignment is late, a penalty of 20% will be assessed. For example, if an assignment is 1 day late, then the maximum achievable score for that assignment is 80%; 2 days late means that the maximum score is 60%, etc
- Exams
- If you know that you will not be able to take an exam on the scheduled exam date, it is your responsibility to make arrangements to take the exam prior to the scheduled exam date. If, for any reason beyond your control, you miss a scheduled exam, then you and I should meet to discuss the reason/documentation for the absence. If the absence is deemed excusable, then the weight for your final exam will be increased accordingly. For example, if you miss Exam 1 and your absence is deemed excusable, then your final exam will be 60% of your final course grade.
- Incomplete Grades
- The policy of the University regarding incomplete grades is available in Section 8.53.20 of the University Manual: “A student shall receive a report of Incomplete in any course in which the course work has been passing up until the time of a documented precipitating incident or condition, but has not been completed because of illness or another reason which in the opinion of the instructor justifies the report.” I will not assign grades of “Incomplete” except in cases of real emergency, and the assignment is subject to approval by the department chairperson.
- Additional Notes
- Regular attendance and class participation is strongly encouraged. Students who are absent from class are nevertheless responsible for all subject matter, assignments, and announcements given in class. Other than a calculator, no electronic equipment (cell phone, ipod, gameboy, TV, radio, earphones, etc….) should be turned on, visible, or audible during class.
