After working with the Macintosh for a while, you will accumulate a number of documents on your disk. Folders help you organize related documents into groups so that they'll be easier to find on the desktop. To create a new folder we will use the New Folder command located in the File Menu:
Here is how to Create a Folder:
Make sure the original desktop menus are up by clicking on the desktop (click anywhere that is not in a window)
Choose New Folder from the File Menu.
The following should appear (however, the new folder may be behind a big window on your screen):
The folder named Untitled Folder has appeared. Before you put anything in the folder, you'll type your own name for it. When you create a new folder, it is already highlighted, ready for you to type a new name. If you clicked elsewhere and deselected the Untitled Folder, simply click on the empty folder's name below its icon to select it the name.
You can now type the name for the folder.
Type Information Papers as the name of your folder.
Place your document "my name" in the folder, To do this, click on the "my name" icon and drag it over the icon of the folder. When the icon of the folder is highlighted, release the mouse button.
When you release the mouse button with the folder icon highlighted, the document "my name" disappears into the folder.
Place the document "my name 2" into the folder Information Papers.
To verify that the documents are indeed in the folder do the following:
Double-click on the "Information Papers" folder to open it.
The following should appear:
The "Information Papers" folder opens on the desktop with your two documents inside. When you create other similar documents, you can group them in this folder to keep them organized.
Click in the close box of the folder window to close it.
You have now successfully created the folder- Information Papers which contains your two documents.
