Save versus Save As
Topic 5: Save versus Save As.
The commands Save and Save As are located under the File menu.
The command Save allows the user to save their document or save the changes made to their document.
In this excersize, we will not Save the changes we made to "my name", instead we will
create a new document which will display the changes.
The command Save As allows the user to save a document as a separate document-a different version of your document that you can keep along with the original. This command is very useful when you want to make modifications that you're uncertain about and want to compare the old document with the new modified document.
Here is how to use the Save As command :
Make sure the window containing the document "my name " is active.
Choose Save As from the File menu.
The following should appear:
In the box labelled Save this document as: type in my name 2; then click Save.
This will make a new document called "my name 2" which is an exact duplicate of the document "my name" plus the added change (the pasted text).Note the document "my name" has not been deleted.
Note that with certain applications you can also change the format of the
document using the Save As command. There may be a time in the
future when you would like to change the format of a document you have.
For example, you may want to format a version 5.1 file to a version 6 file.
When an application offers this feature it is accessed through the
Save As command.
After you click Save the following image should be displayed with your name and address on it.
You have successfully made a different version of your document "my name" and it is called "my name 2". Note that, keeping multiple versions of your documents is a good idea. Having multiple versions allows you to keep or throw away the incremental changes you've made with out any retyping, saving you valuable time. Recall that you can verify that there are two documents on your diskette by double clicking on your diskette icon.
