Scanning Tutorial

In this tutorial you will learn how to scan a picture in the Chafee Lab.

  1. Turn the scanner on.

  2. Place the picture face down, straight along one edge of the glass.

  3. Double-click on the Chafee #20 icon located in the upper right hand corner.

  4. Double-click on the Scanning Software folder.

  5. Double-click on the Ofoto icon. Ofoto is an application program.

  6. A menu should appear to the right on the screen. Select Prescan from this menu. The scanner will now scan in a rough version of the picture.

  7. Wait for the scanner to fully stop. The scanner has fully stopped when the ready light on top of the scanner is green.

  8. If you need to reposition your picture click on Reset and then select Proceed. Once you have repositioned the picture you will want to Prescan it again.

  9. You must now select the area of the picture you want scanned. Take the mouse and click and hold down on the upper left corner of the picture you prescanned. Drag the mouse (holding the button) to the lower right corner. This will put a box around the area you want to scan. Release the mouse button.

  10. Click on the Scan button to scan the image.

  11. The picture will now scan in, this takes a few minutes.

  12. If it needs to be flipped, choose Rotate 180 from the Image menu. Don't worry about the size of the picture yet. We will resize the image later.

  13. You are now ready to save your picture. Choose Save as... from the File menu.

  14. In the Save as dialog box, choose JPEG for the format. Save it to your disk as name.jpg, where name is your name.
